METLIFECARE BAYSWATER

the brief:

Metlifecare’s Bayswater retirement village is a ‘tropical playground’: spread over 21 acres and framed with palm trees, it’s close to Mount Maunganui beach and central to the seaside town’s shops and cafes. It feels like a resort, and the brief to Urban Lounge Interiors was to encapsulate this holiday spirit into the refurbishment of their communal facilities - a project management and design contract completed in a tight timeframe to coincide with their Christmas shutdown.

the outcomes:

Airy and bright, Urban Lounge’s impact is felt from the first step into reception: the new counter is set against a photographic mural of “bunny tails” from the sand dunes only one street away, and welcomes residents and their guests to a home that feels like a holiday.

The common living areas have been transformed, with a fresh colour palette that opens the spaces, and bursts of colourful, quirky decor that give a taste of the tropics: a mix of calm neutrals, citrus tones and tropically upholstered furniture carry cushions to match the bright floral photographic prints adorning the walls. Pale timber pendant lampshades and ceiling fans draw the sea breeze through the dining area for an overall result that is a breath of fresh air.
